World actions, focus actions, and costs
World actions change the shared game world. Moving between rooms, handling items, fighting, trading, crafting, and building use action points (AP).
Focus actions use private attention or make personal choices. Remembering, planning, learning, configuring your character, and unlocking progression use focus points (FP).
Actions have five effort levels:
| Effort | Cost | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 0 | Look, inspect, say, tell, or view known information |
| Routine | 1 | Move, take, eat, attack, remember, or make a note |
| Extended | 2 | Craft substantial work, study an ability, or prepare a complex operation |
| Major | 3 | Found a site-scale activity or make a permanent progression choice |
| Epic | 5 | Resolve a region-scale challenge |
A normal character can store 5 AP and 3 FP. AP regenerates at 1 point per hour and FP at 0.5 point per hour. Unlocking a perk is a major focus action costing 3 FP, so a normal full focus pool permits one perk unlock. Speaking is free, although the world scheduler still limits how quickly commands execute.
Other requirements still apply. An action may also need an item, money, materials, stamina, magic, a nearby target, or a sufficient skill. Failed actions do not spend points.
